Meta Tag Usage Tips

  1. Title Tag: The title tag is one of the most important tags for SEO, as it tells search engines what the page is about. Make sure to include relevant keywords in the title tag, and keep the length between 50-60 characters to make sure most of the title is visible in the SERP.

  2. Description Tag: The description tag is not a direct ranking factor, but it can influence click-through rates from search engine results pages (SERPs). Make sure to write a unique and compelling description that accurately describes the content of the page, and keep the length between 150-160 characters.

  3. Canonical Tag: If you have multiple versions of the same page on your website (e.g. a page with and without “www” in the URL), use the canonical tag to indicate the preferred version of the page for search engines.

  4. Robots Tag: Use the robots tag to control how search engines crawl and index your website. The two most common values for the robots tag are “index” (allow search engines to index the page) and “noindex” (prevent search engines from indexing the page).

  5. Language Tag: If your website is available in multiple languages, use the language tag to indicate the language of each page to search engines. This is mostly applicable to large scale multilingual websites.

  6. Content-Type Tag: The content-type tag indicates the character encoding of the page. Make sure to use the correct character encoding (usually UTF-8) to ensure that search engines can properly index your website.
